This monograph is a collection of tales, fables, and folk
poetry recorded on tape by the author in the early 1970s, as narrated to him by three
principal informants, Sayyid Sulayman, Karam Khan, and Kudabas, all natives of the
Bala-Gariva district of Luristan. One additional story by the informant Khanim has been
added because it is essentially the same as one of Khudabas' stories and illustrates the
technique of alteration by adding motifs (pp. vii-viii). The text of these tales, fables
and poetry, in Luri, the language of the Lur, will be found on pages 114-194 of this book.
In addition to the above, detailed information on Luri phonology, grammar and vocabulary is
included in this work following page 195.
